PaddleReady

PaddleReady - Age guideline 8-15
Be it fall or spring training, the goal of this program is to prepare athletes for the next summer racing season. PaddleReady is designed to allow multi-sport paddlers, 8-16 years of age, to catch up to participants in FUNdamentals, Learn to Train (LTT) or the Train to Compete (TTC) groups.
Taking full advantage of the fall and spring on-water seasons while also developing general fitness in the pursuit of other sports, participants focus on the unique technical demands of paddling.
Paddlers will have a number of fall and spring sub-sessions to choose from that accommodate busy schedules. The program builds upon maturational growth; fitness achieved through multiple athletic activities; and, when at Cheema, developing the unique technical demands of paddling.
Specifically, on-water training in the fall aerobic capacity and a sound skill base. In the spring, technique is further enhanced and the base required for race readiness is developed. Even for younger participants, it’s simply an opportunity to learn more paddling skills – like steering and balance - before the summer racing program begins. In keeping with our wish to accommodate athletes in other sports, we can look at shorter participation intervals – see specifics below.
PaddleReady merges with the year-round programs and the coaches place PaddleReady participants in appropriate training groups based on experience, skill development needs, fitness level, maturity, and age. Getting “caught up” is managed by the coaches and an athlete can move through groups as their readiness presents itself. Five to six sessions per week will be provided with the expectation that participants will attend a minimum of three. Coaches will set a specific schedule with the right program (FUNdamentals, LTT, TTC). This program has been created to ensure participants can race competitively at local regattas in the summer.
With unpredictable weather in the fall and spring, some days may be in the gym doing dry-land training like age-appropriate strength, endurance, and technique work. There is a regular Monday to Friday offering at 4:30 pm and Saturday mornings at 9:00 am.
