The Masters program is for adults over the age of 25. This program provides instruction in sprint kayak, canoe and war canoe. You can be as competitive or recreational as you want with this program. Our focus is physical fitness and fun! It's a great way to meet new people from your community and stay active. Interested individuals may try the program for 5 sessions without commitment.

The Cheema Masters on water program offers participants instruction and training guidance in sprint canoe/kayak whether you have little to no experience or if you are expert level.  The sessions are held on Tuesday, Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings.  We split our time between:

  • small boats (K1, K2 and K4; C1, C2) Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 530 –630 pm and Saturday mornings at 0900 am and
  • War Canoe practice will be at 630-730 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and 0800 on Saturday mornings.

The variety of water sports offers a fun and challenging outdoor exercise opportunity and you can choose if you would like to compete in regattas.  We offer an upgraded program option (Masters Plus) with more emphasis on training and improving on personal and team goals to ignite your competitive fire.  Masters Plus trains two early mornings per week Monday and Wednesday 630-730 am, in addition to the regular program (Tues and Thur evenings).

The Winter training for the Masters Program is 3 guided weight room workouts per week, focusing on full body, circuit-style and strength training exercises. Participants are coached in proper lifting technique and form/posture to prevent injuries.  Sessions are 1 hour in duration and offer an efficient, intense workout (scalable to appropriate level) with an emphasis on gaining specific strength and cardiovascular conditioning for water sports as well as cross training for other sports.  A lot of time priming the body and getting it properly warmed up and we always finish with some recovery training such as gentle yoga or body rolling and stretching.  The main goal is to create community and have fun while improving fitness and health!
