Age Group Descriptions - U10, U12, U14, U15

AGE DIVISIONS: all paddlers are divided into the following age categories. 

  • U10:  Ages 8 to 10, must be 8 as of January 1st
  • U12:  Ages 11 to 12, born in 2010 & 2011
  • U14:  Ages 13 to 14, born in 2008 & 2009
  • U15:  Age 15, born in 2007

U10 Program

Under the U10 program the participants summer will include the following:

  • Boating and water safety/education; build water sense and safety awarenewss
  • Be comfortable playing in, on and around water
  • FUNdamentals and foundations of Canoe Kayak; learn basic boat and paddle handling skills in age appropriate cane and kayakcs
  • Become confident in movement skills
  • Teamwork/building through land games and other activities
  • Coordination and balance; become comfortable and confident in boats
  • Skill builiding in all forms of Canoe/Kayak
  • Understanding Canoe/Kayak equipment

U12 Program

Under the U12 program the participants summer will include the following:

  • Boating and water safety/education; build water sense and safety awareness
  • Be comfortable playing in, on and around water
  • FUNdamentals of training; learn basic boat and paddle handling skills in age appropriate canoe and kayaks
  • Be physically literate (competent in fundamental movement skills)
  • Use basic canoe/kayak boat steering skills in demonstrating boat control
  • Be able to paddle continuously in a single and team boat
  • Learning to follow structure
  • Teamwork/building through team boats, land games and other activities
  • Coordination and balance; become comfortable and confident in boats
  • Skill building in all forms of Canoe/Kayak
  • Build technical skills in boat
  • Introduction to racing singles and team boats

U14 Program

Under the U14 program the participants summer will include the following:

  • Boating and water/safety education; build water sense and safety awareness
  • Learn to train; following a structured paddling session
  • Learn to paddle with proper technique
  • Specialize in either a canoe or kayak
  • Coordination and balance; become comfortable and confident in boats
  • Become proficient in paddling and singles and team boats
  • Skill building in all forms of Canoe/Kayak
  • Racing singles and team boats
  • Introduction to fitness and strength education; develop speed and strength, and build general endurance
  • Introduction to nutrition education
  • Organizational skill building

U15 Program

Under the U15 program the participants summer will include the following:

  • Transition into year-round program
  • Transition from 'Learn to Train' to 'Train to Train'
  • Fitness and strength education
  • Racing/competition focused
